Books: Quercus

A very brief note to just announce my new role at Quercus. I decided to make the move to a new industry and started last week at Quercus Books. I'm working closely with an old Amazon colleague who I worked with as part of the original Books team at amazon.co.uk. Lots of parallels with the music industry but also, *lots* of differences. I'm finding it just fascinating. Quercus are an independent publisher who were recently awarded the industry accolade of Publisher of The Year. They've only been around since 2004 but had some significant *hits*. Their first major one in fiction was probably Stef Penney's success with The Tenderness of Wolves which won the Costa a few years back but its been the commercial success with the Stieg Larsson trilogy as well as Let The Right One In and The King's Speech that are probably the most recognisable to anyone not working in publishing. The industry is abuzz with the news that Jo Fletcher has joined us from Gollancz, (the fantasy and science fiction imprint of the Orion Publishing Group) to head up her own imprint and I was lucky to meet her this week. I've just finished my first week there which I've throughly enjoyed. Lots of exciting stuff on its way..
